Atsushi Hara Wins 2008 IFMAR 1/8 Off-Road   Buggy Worlds
After an exciting week of racing by the world’s best drivers, Hot Bodies’ Atsushi Hara was crowned
World Off-Road Champion.

The A-main was intense as drivers continually swapped the lead. Early on, Ryan Maifield, Mike Truhe, Ryan Cavalieri and the rest of the pack shot around the track at incredible speeds and with ultimate precision. The top three pushed one another hard, all trying for the lead. Meanwhile, mid-pack hard-charging Jesse Robbers’ Hot Bodies (HB) D8’s rear pivot broke. With four of their five cars in the Main, the HB team was definitely the favorite. Then something let go on Cavalieri’s RC8, and this left Maifield, Truhe and Tebo to fight it out up front.

Pit stops were quick, and spectators gasped as cars flipped and marshals sprinted to retrieve them. During all this, the HB pack started a charge toward the front, headed by Hara. He eventually pulled away and joined front-runners Maifield and Truhe.

As the lead repeatedly changed hands, the crowd roared and blasted air-horns. In the end, Hara built up a sizeable lead, and even with a few bobbles, his buggy was incredibly fast. With about three laps to go, Hara put his buggy on safety cruise control to keep the rubber side down. Truhe saw Hara’s safe driving and put his Team Losi 8ight 2.0 into overdrive in an attempt to catch up. All eyes were on his car Truhe as it seemed to teeter on the edge of being out of control—all on the race line. With superb driving, he narrowed the gap between his car and Hara’s. Then suddenly, everyone focused on the pits because Maifield blew a plug, went in, and lost all hope for a win.

Back up front and now on the last lap, Hara rolled all the jumps on the last three quarters of the track. Truhe was right behind him, but Hara crossed the line 1 second in front of him while Renaud Savoya charged into third.

Congratulations to Hara for his win and to his Hot Bodies team for putting four of their new buggies into the Main.
