Team Associated Announces the RC10TC6 Factory Team

The RC10TC6 Factory Team kit is the newest edition to the family and legacy of competitive, high performance 4WD touring cars by Team Associated. Designed to take full advantage of all the latest technological advances made in 1:10 scale electronics, the TC6 has been optimized to use all of the benefits offered by brushless motor systems and LiPo batteries. The engineers behind the doors of Area 51 have been hard at work developing the TC6 to blend the best qualities of high performance and adjustability without sacrificing durability or ease of maintenance.

The TC6 takes the same suspension components from the TC5R before it and adds many new features, making it even better. For improved weight distribution, the TC6 motor mount has been moved 13mm closer to the chassis center line and the spur gear has been lowered 5mm compared to the TC5. These changes result in a more centralized mass and lower center of gravity for the TC6 chassis. The servo mounting holes are slotted to not only accommodate different servos but also to optimize the position of the servo mass.

The TC6 includes the Factory Team VCS3 shock package that features hard-anodized threaded shock bodies with bottom-loaded seals. The VCS3 shocks are super smooth and have an increased stroke for more up-travel at the wheels, all adding up to more consistent overall traction.

An updated steering system with additional Ackermann options and an improved steering input rate gives the TC6 more consistent handling. Blue titanium turnbuckles come with new ballcup eyelets for easier access to the ball studs. These are only a few of the many refinements that can be found in the RC10TC6 Factory Team kit - making it yet another Champion by Design!

NASCAR Star Kyle Busch and Traxxas Join Forces for Off-Road & Oval Racing Excitement

Kyle Busch needs no introduction to race fans. With a record-setting 21 victories across the top three NASCAR series in 2008, and the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series title under his belt, Busch is arguably the best stock car racer in the country. And on August 24th at Chicagoland Speedway, he may just prove himself to be among the best short-course off-road racers as well! Kyle Busch will join the Traxxas TORC series and race in the Pro 2WD class, where he will compete against some of TORC’s most talented racers, including Rick Johnson, Jeff Kincaid, and Jeremy McGrath. Busch has raced in the dirt before, behind the wheel of a late-model oval machine, but Kyle’s TORC debut will be his first time dealing with the jumps, rough terrain, and the truck-to-truck contact that defines short-course competition. “I’ve always wanted to try out one of the Traxxas TORC Series trucks, so being able to race one at Chicago is going to be a lot of fun,” Busch said. “Racing an off-road truck has been on my list of vehicles I wanted to try out before my racing career was over, so I have to thank Traxxas for giving me a chance to come out and race one of these short course trucks for the first time.” Busch’s Pro 2WD truck will wear the familiar M&M candies graphics of the number 18 Toyota Camry he races in NASCAR, and will be supported in the Traxxas pit alongside the Pro 4X4 machines of Mike and Mark Jenkins, and the Traxxas Pro Light of Andrew Caddell.

Take to the driver’s stand in the Pro Driver R/C Race and compete against Pro Short Course racing’s elite with Traxxas Slash trucks. This event is a favorite for fans as they watch the drivers duke it out with each other on the R/C track with equally prepared stock trucks. It’s a battle of driving skill and strategy as rivalries fought on the full-size track make their way to the R/C track as well. The R/C Pro Driver Race is immediately followed by an autograph session where fans can meet the drivers, including Kyle in person. The R/C Pro Driver Race begins at 6PM on Wed, August 25th.

In addition to teaming with Kyle Busch to promote short-course racing, Traxxas is also supporting Kyle in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. After racing the TORC series mid-week, Kyle will strap into a NASCAR truck for Friday’s speedway race. His truck will be fully outfitted with Traxxas racing livery, introducing fans to The Fastest Name in Radio Control. Traxxas will also sponsor Kyle in two additional NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events: Talladega on October 30, and Homestead on November 19. Race fans who can’t make it to Chicago can watch Kyle Busch make his TORC debut on Discovery HD Theater, which will premier the first of 26 episodes of “The Off-Road Championship” on September 2. NASCAR fans can see Kyle behind the wheel of his Traxxas “Nastruck” in Chicago on Speed, August 27 at 9pm eastern. The race will be re-broadcast August 29 at 12am, and August 30 at 12:30pm.

RPM Releases Front Bumper & Skid Plate for the HPI Baja 5B

A lack of front-end protection of any R/C vehicle eventually results in hours of down time, replacing expensive chassis components from front-end impacts. The stock set-up on the HPI Baja 5B has virtually no protection up front since the bumper is tucked so far into the front of the vehicle. RPM steps in with some serious protection in the form of an all-new bumper specifically designed for this beast!

Our front bumper is a two-piece design, utilizing a skid plate and separate bumper that can be removed for racing. Each piece has specific design elements incorporated to dramatically improve the strength and durability of the HPI Baja 5B.

The RPM skid plate is attached to the chassis with four 5mm screws, not two like the stock version, effectively cutting transferred impact energy in half, divided equally among those four screws. Our skid plate also has huge skid rails all along its lower section and is a major part of the impact-absorption system. It extends up, out and away from the chassis, creating a large curved section that acts as a buffer zone that rapidly dissipates impact energy by compressing during a hit, slowing and absorbing that energy without transferring it into the more fragile components of the vehicle. Once the impact force dissipates, the memory characteristics of our trademark blend of RPM nylons will return the bumper to its original position.

The bumper itself is over 6-1/2” wide and is designed to prevent smaller objects such as fence and mailbox poles from slipping in-between the skid plate and the tires. Its added width tops off a perfectly balanced design that is strong, extremely durable and built to last!

RPM 3.5mm Heavy Duty Rod Ends

RPM has been known for exceptionally strong, tight-tolerance rod ends (also known as “ball cups”). We should – they’ve been the strongest and best rod ends in the R/C industry for over 20 years!

Standard RPM rod ends have always been quite versatile but the use of 3.5mm turnbuckles is quite popular. Since our standard rod ends have too small of a hole for the larger turnbuckle to thread into properly, we decided to make it easier for our customers by releasing these 3.5mm Heavy Duty Rod Ends that allow the use of larger than stock 3.5mm turnbuckles while still using a standard 4.3mm (.170”) diameter ball stud, common to most 1/10th scale Losi, Associated and some HPI vehicles. Now anyone can run a stronger 3.5mm turnbuckle size without having to sacrifice strength or durability with an inferior rod end!

RPM 3.5mm Heavy Duty Rod Ends are molded in a light gray color, sold in sets of 12 per package and are factory-backed by our industry-leading lifetime warranty.

Tech Notes: RPM 3.5mm Heavy Duty Rod Ends are designed for use with 3.5mm (.137”) diameter turnbuckles and 4.3mm (.170”) diameter ball studs. They will not work with oversized ball studs such as HPI’s 4.8mm versions.

I decided to explain the ins and outs of THE Car in a 7-part story. I will explain why it is designed the way it is, why and how I made the decisions that I made, and what I believe I have managed to achieve. Usually new cars are discussed on the internet forums, and no one REALLY knows what the true story is. So I have decide to enlighten you, and elaborate slightly on the normal run of the mill, "no-compromise aircraft grade 7075 chassis for optimum stiffeness and cornering stability" and give you some real information. The stock rear end of the HPI Baja 5B & 5T is not designed for low-end protection since the stock set-up has nothing in the back that needs protecting. However, large rear-mounted aftermarket exhaust pipes expose a critical weakness in the lack of protection those two tubes provide.

The RPM rear skid plate eliminates that weak point by eliminating those two tubes entirely. We replace them with a large, curved plate with seven huge skid rails measuring 1/4” wide by 3/16” tall that provide unmatched skid and impact resistance to the rear end. A small, open section was left to allow easy access to the clip holding the stock under-guard in place while closing up most of the back end so nothing can come up from the bottom to hit that expensive, aftermarket exhaust pipe. We also dropped the skid rails parallel to the lowest point on the chassis, helping reduce some of the impacts taken by the chassis and place it where it can be handled much better – by the RPM skid plate!

We made our rear skid plate beefy to handle tail-first landings or rear impacts, yet because it is made from our killer blend of proprietary materials, it can still absorb severe impact energy instead of transferring it into the more fragile and expensive chassis components.

RPM rear skid plates for the HPI Baja 5B & 5T are sold as three-piece kits and come with all necessary mounting hardware and instructions.

Tech Notes: This skid plate replaces HPI stock #85438 (item #4 on the tree). RPM rear skid plates are tested and only guaranteed to fit stock HPI parts and RPM aftermarket accessories.
