Decisions on what to run

The 2012 ROAR 1/8 Off-Road Nationals are rapidly approaching and since I’ll be there to cover the event I figured I’d sign up and participate as well. Typically I wait to the last minute to prepare my race machines as I’m a self-admitted procrastinator in the prep department. But since this race is big, I thought I’d start getting my gear in order now. No sooner did I decided to prep early, I found myself with another decision. Do I run my TLR 8IGHT 2.0 EU that has over a season of runs on it, or do I go with my new TLR 8IGHT 2.0 kit that has just one race day on it. My EU is broken in and totally dialed; I’ve had a lot of compliments on how hooked up it looks. However with a big race shouldn’t I go with newer equipment? The new buggy doesn’t have all of the option parts like the EU has so I would have to spend more time installing new stuff rather than just run the older built up EU buggy.  What to do! Not sure I’m going to get any work done on a buggy today; it will be a day of accessing my equipment.

RC Driver Magazine Editor-in-Chief: My radio control hobby started in 1985 with a Tamiya Falcon. The first time I drove the buggy I finished 3rd in the A-Main out of forty-eight drivers; needless to say I was hooked. From then on I competed in a lot of races in many different segments. At sixteen I started my first job at a Hobbytown USA and at seventeen started as a contributing writer for an RC publication. A few years later, I started full-time as a magazine editor while attending college for graphic design. Little did I know down the road I'd be offered a chance to start up a new RC magazine. I jumped at the opportunity and with a talented group of professionals launched RC Driver Magazine. Throughout the years I never lost my passion for RC and spreading the word about this wonderful hobby. I hope you enjoy our magazine and website!

  1. Id go with what you know works. I went to several races with new equipment and spent more time between races trying to dial my truck and buggy in. It got very frustrating especially since i had good equipment but just didnt know how to use it to my advantage.
