As summer winds down things are heating up in the Midwest. Leisure Hours Raceway is the host for the 2012 ROAR On-Road Nationals. This world-class facility has hosted the 1/10-scale Electric Off-Road Nationals and the Fuel Nationals in the past and, with one of the finest paved road courses we’ve ever seen, Leisure Hours is once again the perfect host facility. The big names and teams are all here including Sean Cochrane, Bob Stellflue, Rick Howart and Kevin Hebert from Team Associated, Rob Michael and TJ Bradley from Corally, Paul Lemiuex from Xray are just some of the names here. We also have many fast local and regional driver’s in-attendence too, making this a very competitive field. Classes include 17.5T, 13.5T and Open Modified Sedan, US Vintage Trans Am, and both Open Modified and 17.5T 1/12-scale.
Today marked the first day of qualifying with the qualifying heats set by practice times. Two rounds of qualifying were run today with two more tomorrow with the mains coming on Sunday. There have been a number of great battles thus far in multiple classes. The AE crew of Kevin Hebert and Rick Howart have both had very fast runs in the Open Modified Sedan class as has Xray’s Paul Lemiuex. In 13.5T the top-3 are separated by less than .6 seconds, while 5-seconds covers the top 5. Other classes also have great battles going on and, with two rounds of qualifying tomorrow in a qual-points format virtually anyone can still TQ any class.
Make sure to check out some of our photos below, with more coming as the weekend progresses. Good luck to all the drivers in-attendence!
