For many longtime RC enthusiasts, the Team Associated RC10DS represents a special era of on-road RC. Long before modern belt-driven touring cars dominated parking lots, the RC10DS combined the legendary RC10 platform with pavement-ready suspension and a unique driving style that rewarded skill over outright grip. Team Associated has brought this classic back as a build-it-yourself kit, giving vintage RC fans the chance to relive the experience while introducing a new generation to one of the hobby’s most memorable on-road cars.

After completing the full kit build and spending time driving it on asphalt, it’s clear this rerelease delivers the nostalgic experience many enthusiasts were hoping for.

What’s Included

The Team Associated RC10DS is sold as a kit and requires assembly. Builders will need to supply:

Electronics (servo, ESC, motor, transmitter, receiver and battery)
Polycarbonate paint
Building tools
Body scissors or hobby knife
Tire glue
Servo Horn

The kit includes the molded body with window masks, rear wing, vintage-style wheels and tires, aluminum chassis, fiberglass shock towers, suspension components, ball differential transmission, slipper clutch, and all the hardware needed for assembly.

Chassis & Steering

The RC10DS stays remarkably faithful to the original design. At its heart is the classic stamped aluminum tub chassis complete with the familiar battery tray that allows the battery to mount perpendicular across the chassis. Team Associated has also retained many of the iconic details, including the front bumper, separate front lower plate, Anniversary Edition markings, and etched RC10DS logo.

There are a few subtle updates throughout the chassis, including additional servo mounting holes for improved electronics compatibility. The front suspension uses the signature narrow control arms, adjustable turnbuckles, vintage steering knuckles, and caster blocks that longtime Associated fans will instantly recognize.

One welcome feature returning from the original is the front and rear sway bars. These are essential on the RC10DS, helping reduce body roll and making the car significantly more predictable than many drivers may remember from years ago.

Suspension, Wheels & Tires

Perhaps the most recognizable feature of the RC10DS is its unique laid-down front shock design. The kit includes aluminum-bodied Team Associated oil-filled shocks that require full assembly, complete with O-rings, seals, and oil filling using the included shock assembly tool.

The rear suspension maintains the vintage geometry with narrow rear arms, adjustable wheelbase spacers, and hub carriers that preserve the original handling characteristics while making assembly easier than it was decades ago.

The kit includes period-correct RC10DS street tires mounted to chrome-style wheels with gold inserts. While they certainly capture the vintage appearance, one small issue from the original remains—the tires still appear slightly concave across the tread surface, causing them to ride more on the outer edges than perfectly flat. At speeds the tire is supposed to ballon for traction, but I still feel after all these years it’s a bit inconsistent.

Drivetrain

Power is delivered through the classic rear-wheel drive transmission featuring a fully adjustable ball differential and slipper clutch. The drivetrain is simple, lightweight, and wonderfully mechanical compared to today’s more complex touring cars.

One minor frustration encountered during the build involved motor installation. The slotted motor plate doesn’t provide a great deal of rotational adjustment, limiting pinion gear choices unless modifications are made. Using a smaller pinion solved the issue, but it’s something builders should be aware of during assembly.

Electronics

Since this is a kit, electronics are entirely up to the builder.

For this build, the car was equipped with:

Reedy 1320MG servo
Reedy brushless ESC
Reedy 3300KV brushless motor
Team Associated receiver with DVC gyro stabilization
3S LiPo battery

The addition of DVC (Dynamic Vehicle Control) gives the vintage platform a modern helping hand. Initial gyro gain was far too aggressive, causing noticeable steering corrections and instability, but after dialing the sensitivity back, the system noticeably improved control without overwhelming the driving experience.

Notable Features

A number of thoughtful touches help make this rerelease feel authentic while simplifying the build:

Anniversary Edition badging
RC10DS chassis engraving
Included window masks
Easier-to-build rear bulkhead with pre-drilled mounting holes
Adjustable wheelbase spacers
Foam ball stud protectors for a true vintage appearance

The body itself deserves special mention. Although it’s an unlicensed “P-car” inspired design rather than an officially licensed body, it perfectly captures the iconic silhouette that made the original RC10DS so recognizable. Finished in transparent gold backed with chrome and black paint, the body gives the car a custom look while still feeling completely period correct.

Performance

Driving the RC10DS today is a refreshing reminder of how different RC cars used to feel.

Unlike today’s planted four-wheel drive touring cars, the RC10DS has suspension travel, noticeable chassis roll, and rear-wheel drive. It demands smooth throttle inputs and rewards drivers who are willing to work with the chassis rather than simply relying on massive grip.

After reducing the DVC gyro gain, the car became much more predictable through corners. The excessive spinning and sudden snap oversteer often associated with older rear-wheel drive street cars was greatly reduced, allowing the driver to push harder with confidence.

Running on a 3S LiPo transforms the car into something surprisingly quick. Straight-line acceleration is far beyond what anyone experienced during the original NiCd and NiMH days, making speed runs genuinely exciting while still keeping the vintage driving personality intact.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was simply how much fun the RC10DS is to drive. Sliding through parking lots, hopping curbs, carving around traffic islands, and listening to the tires squeal brings back a style of RC driving that many modern touring cars have lost. It feels playful instead of clinical, making every run entertaining rather than purely focused on lap times.

By the end of the driving session, it became clear why the RC10DS earned such a loyal following decades ago. It’s not the fastest or most refined on-road car available today—but it may be one of the most enjoyable.

Pros

-Faithful recreation of the original RC10DS
-Excellent nostalgia factor
-Enjoyable, relaxing kit build
-Classic rear-wheel drive driving experience
-Quality Team Associated suspension components
-Includes sway bars for improved handling
-Beautiful vintage-inspired body and wheel package
-Surprisingly quick performance on 3S power

Cons

-Motor plate offers limited gear adjustment
-Tires still bother me
-Requires complete electronics package and paint
-Rear-wheel drive handling may challenge newer drivers

Wrap-Up

The Team Associated RC10DS isn’t trying to compete with today’s high-performance touring cars, and that’s exactly why it’s so enjoyable. It captures the personality of one of RC’s most memorable pavement machines while adding just enough modern refinement to make it easier to enjoy today.

Whether you owned an original RC10DS years ago or simply want to experience a classic slice of RC history, this rerelease delivers an authentic build, a distinctive driving experience, and plenty of smiles every time the tires start squealing across the asphalt. For vintage RC fans especially, the RC10DS proves that sometimes the old ways are still some of the most fun.

Scale Looks With Simple Assembly

Assembly only takes a few minutes, and once complete, the trailer feels solid and well-built. The construction inspires confidence that it can handle regular trail use while maintaining the detailed scale appearance Axial is known for.

Hitched behind a tow rig, the trailer immediately looks the part. The proportions are spot on, giving trucks like the Toyota SR5 used in our testing a realistic overlanding and recovery vehicle appearance. Whether you’re displaying your crawler on the workbench or towing another rig around an event, the trailer adds an extra layer of realism that’s hard to ignore.

In Use

Once assembled, the Axial SCX10 Flatbed Vehicle Trailer immediately adds another level of realism to any scale trail truck. Hooked behind our Toyota SR5, it looked right at home and proved to be much more stable than expected. Since the trailer doesn’t feature suspension, we anticipated quite a bit of bouncing over rough terrain, but it tracked nicely behind the tow vehicle and remained composed while driving through ruts and uneven sections of the crawler course.

Of course, the real purpose of the trailer is hauling another crawler. Loading up a second rig instantly creates an impressive scale look that’s sure to turn heads at trail runs and RC events. During testing, however, we discovered one thing owners will want to address before hitting the trail. Axial doesn’t include any tie-down straps or bungee cords, so an unsecured vehicle will gradually slide around on the deck when driving over bumps. It’s an easy fix with aftermarket straps, but it’s something to plan for if you intend to transport another crawler over rough terrain.

Compatibility is another thing to keep in mind. The trailer is designed to work with the proper rear hitch setup, so if your SCX10 III or compatible crawler doesn’t already have the correct hitch mount, you may need to add one before towing.

Overall, the trailer performs exactly as intended. It’s easy to assemble, tracks well behind the tow vehicle, and delivers the realistic scale appearance that Axial fans have been asking for. For anyone looking to complete a scale towing setup, it’s a fun accessory that adds both realism and personality to any trail rig.

Pros
Quick and simple assembly
Excellent scale appearance
Solid construction
Stable towing characteristics
Great addition for scale events and trail adventures
Cons
Tie-down straps are not included
Loaded vehicles can slide around if not secured
May require the proper hitch mount depending on your tow vehicle

Wrap-Up

The Axial SCX10 Flatbed Vehicle Trailer is one of those accessories that simply makes owning a scale crawler more enjoyable. It won’t transform your truck’s performance, but it dramatically enhances the overall scale experience. Between its straightforward assembly, realistic appearance, and stable towing manners, it’s an easy accessory to appreciate.

The only real omission is the lack of included tie-downs, but that’s easily solved with a set of scale bungee cords or straps. If you’re an Axial fan or enjoy building realistic trail rigs that look as good parked at camp as they do on the rocks, the SCX10 Flatbed Vehicle Trailer is a worthwhile addition to your collection.

Featuring a carbon fiber chassis, portal axles, aluminum shocks, a Hobbywing brushless power system, and a powerful waterproof steering servo, the Vertex 10 looks impressive on paper. Factory paint, graphics, clear windows, and an integrated front LED light bar give it a premium appearance straight out of the box.

One of the standout features is Redcat’s hidden body mounting system. Instead of traditional body clips, the body is secured using twist-lock mounts disguised as the hood scoop and rear fuel cell cap. The result is a much cleaner look while still providing quick and easy access to the chassis for battery changes and maintenance.

Chassis & Steering

The Vertex 10 starts with an impressive carbon fiber twin vertical plate chassis that’s reinforced with aluminum braces and composite cross members. The result is an exceptionally rigid platform designed to keep suspension geometry consistent while remaining lightweight.

Weight distribution was clearly a priority during development. The battery sits low in the center of the chassis while the compact transmission places additional weight toward the front axle to improve climbing performance. Underneath, a smooth 10-degree skid plate provides excellent breakover clearance for navigating large rocks and ledges.

Steering is equally impressive. Metal steering links, a metal servo horn, and dual CV front axles combine to produce an incredible amount of steering angle. Even at full lock, the tires maintain excellent clearance from the suspension components, allowing the Vertex 10 to maneuver through extremely tight technical sections with ease.

Suspension, Wheels & Tires

Redcat equipped the Vertex 10 with aluminum oil-filled emulsion shocks featuring bleeder screws for easy maintenance and tuning. Multiple mounting positions allow drivers to fine-tune suspension geometry, while quick-change shock posts make adjustments much easier than traditional screw-mounted designs.

The suspension itself is built around durable metal links with bent upper and lower rear links that improve ground clearance over obstacles. Metal pivot balls throughout the suspension further reinforce the premium construction.

Buyers can choose between two RTR configurations. The standard model uses 1.9-inch beadlock wheels, while the wider version features larger 2.2-inch wheels wrapped in aggressive 5.25-inch tires. Both utilize three-piece beadlock wheels with dual-stage foam inserts that provide excellent tire support while conforming well to uneven rock surfaces.

During testing, both tire combinations offered outstanding grip, with the larger 2.2-inch setup providing even more traction and stability on steep climbs.

Drivetrain

The Vertex 10’s drivetrain is packed with premium components designed for durability and crawling efficiency.

At the center is a compact transmission featuring metal gears supported by ball bearings inside a carbon fiber and composite housing. Metal slider driveshafts transfer power to portal axles equipped with steel ring and pinion gears for long-term reliability.

The front axle uses steel axle tubes to increase strength while adding useful weight over the steering tires. Aluminum rear axle tubes help reduce unnecessary rear weight without sacrificing durability.

One of the standout features is the factory-installed weighted metal portal covers. Many crawler enthusiasts add brass portal weights immediately after purchasing a new rig, but Redcat includes them right from the factory to improve front-end traction and climbing ability.

Electronics

The electronics package is one of the Vertex 10’s biggest strengths.

Power comes from a Hobbywing WP10BL waterproof 60-amp brushless ESC capable of running 2S through 4S LiPo batteries. The included XT60 connector makes battery selection simple, while the integrated cooling fan helps keep temperatures under control during extended trail sessions.

The matching 1700KV outrunner brushless motor delivers exceptionally smooth low-speed throttle response that’s ideal for technical crawling.

Steering duties are handled by a powerful 50kg waterproof digital metal gear servo that had no trouble turning the tires even when wedged deep into rocky terrain.

Redcat also deserves credit for the clean electronics layout. Wiring is neatly secured throughout the chassis, connectors are organized, and even the receiver switch is mounted securely rather than simply being taped into place.

Notable Features

One of the coolest features on the Vertex 10 RTR is its hidden body mounting system. Instead of traditional body clips, the body is secured using twist-lock mounts disguised as the hood scoop and rear fuel cell cap. The system provides quick chassis access while maintaining a much cleaner scale appearance.

The body itself features molded bed details, clear windows, integrated lighting details, and attractive factory paint schemes that give the truck a premium appearance before it even reaches the trail.

Combined with the weighted portal covers and numerous aluminum components, the Vertex 10 feels like a crawler that’s already equipped with many of the upgrades enthusiasts typically add after purchase.

Performance

Once the Vertex 10 reached the rocks, it immediately became clear that this crawler was engineered with performance as the top priority.

Throttle control is exceptional. The Hobbywing brushless system allows the truck to creep at an incredibly slow pace while maintaining precise control over difficult terrain. Steep descents are equally impressive thanks to the aggressive drag brake, allowing the crawler to ease down obstacles with minimal driver input.

Steering performance is among the best in its class. The tremendous steering angle makes navigating tight rock gardens surprisingly easy, reducing the need for repeated corrections or multi-point turns.

Suspension performance is equally impressive. The aluminum shocks deliver smooth articulation while the chassis remains composed on uneven terrain. Throughout testing, the tires maintained excellent contact with the rocks, maximizing available traction even on challenging climbs.

Both RTR versions tackled technical ledges, steep inclines, off-camber side hills, and rocky descents with confidence. The wider 2.2-inch model offered slightly more stability during aggressive climbs thanks to its broader stance and larger tires, while the 1.9-inch version remained extremely capable with a slightly more compact footprint.

The weighted portal covers, forward weight bias, excellent steering geometry, and sticky tires all contribute to a crawler that simply works. Rather than constantly fighting for traction, drivers can focus on choosing lines and enjoying the challenge.

The only real drawback during testing was drivetrain noise. The portal drivetrain and outrunner motor produce a noticeable gear whine under load. It’s certainly audible, but never distracting enough to take away from the overall driving experience.

Pros
From its carbon fiber chassis and portal axles to its Hobbywing brushless electronics and impressive steering geometry, nearly every component has been designed with serious crawling capability in mind.

On the rocks, the Vertex 10 delivers exactly what enthusiasts are looking for: precise throttle control, excellent articulation, tremendous steering, and the confidence to tackle technical terrain without requiring a long list of aftermarket upgrades.

Whether you prefer the scale proportions of the standard 1.9-inch version or the additional stability of the wider 2.2-inch model, the Vertex 10 is one of the most complete Ready-to-Run crawlers Redcat has ever produced. For anyone looking to add a capable trail machine to their collection, this is a crawler that’s well worth a closer look.

Team Corally jumps into the hot mini basher category with the all-new Punisher XD and Furago XD on the XD2S platform! In this video, we unbox both trucks, take a detailed look at the chassis design, drivetrain, suspension, electronics, and durability features, then hit the dirt track and skatepark for some serious bashing action. From huge jumps and wheelies to discovering a few weak points during testing, this video also covers how Team Corally delayed the launch to improve the trucks before release — including upgraded shock shafts, a metal gear servo, and revised battery retention parts. After the fixes were installed, the Furago XD proved to be an absolute blast to drive with stable handling, great jump control, and impressive durability for a mini brushless-style basher. Available through HRP and your local hobby shop.

In this video, we unbox, build, paint, and drive the Ready-To-Assemble Mojave Grom kit to see what this brushed-style mini desert truck is all about. ARRMA gives you a fun hands-on build experience with prebuilt diffs, glued tires, blacked-out plastics, a clear paintable body, and everything needed to learn the platform from the ground up. After putting the truck together and laying down a custom Pro-Line paint scheme, it’s time to hit the skatepark and dirt lot to see how this little truck handles jumps, crashes, and full-throttle runs. If you’ve been thinking about getting into RC or want a fun project build with serious personality, this Mojave Grom RTA delivers big fun in a small package.

What used to be one of the most iconic gas-powered giant scale RC trucks is now fully electric, running up to 12S power and pushing over 55 pounds of desert truck insanity. In this video I break down all the major changes, compare it to the previous generation, speed test it on 8S and 12S, then head to the Sandlot and RC Madness to send this massive beast flying. I honestly wasn’t sure how I’d feel about an electric 5T after driving and racing the originals years ago, but after a full day behind the wheel, this thing completely won me over with huge power, serious air, and surprisingly balanced handling. And yes… we crashed it hard.

I tried running brass weights, magnets, and ball bearings inside my tires… and it completely changed how my crawler behaves on the rocks. The Pro-Line Racing Rock Tech system promises lower center of gravity and better climbing stability—but does it actually deliver in the real world?

In this video, I install it, break down how the magnetic system works, and test it back-to-back on the same lines—with and without the magnets engaged. The results weren’t exactly what I expected, especially when it came to traction vs tire flex.
