The big, bad and extremely powerful Traxxas X-Maxx is one extraordinary vehicle. It is a massive 4WD off-road monster truck that measures just over 30-inches long, is nearly 14-inches tall and is equipped with the very powerful Velineon VXL-8S brushless power system that allows it to exceed the 50mph mark. These notable traits are why we always have so much fun tearing around with the X-Maxx trucks we have here at RC Driver. Like most RCers, we love to upgrade our vehicles and the X-Maxx has some nice offerings out there to make it even better. Here are five of our favorite Pro-Line parts for the Traxxas X-Maxx which will enhance overall performance and give it a more aggressive-looking appearance. This is just a taste of what Pro-Line has to offer so be sure to go and check out what they have and you can see the different ways that you could customize your Traxxas X-Maxx monster truck.
Kicking off the five of our favorite Pro-Line parts for the Traxxas X-Maxx is this stunning-looking Pro-Line 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor body. The aggressive scale detail that Pro-Line expertly executed helps to make this officially licensed body stand out from others. It is complete with the bold and tough body styling that makes the Raptor look so cutting edge. Mating this Raptor body to the awesome X-Maxx is a perfect pairing.
What helps to make this body one of our picks is that it comes out of the packaging already pre-cut for you and there is no painting required. The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is one of the bodies that was given the Pro-Line Tough-Color treatment. This means that the material, named Tough-Color Black, was used to mold this body. The black color is all the way through the Tough-Color material so you won’t have to worry about painting the body or be concerned when your truck has an impact because there is no paint to chip off. Since the body comes pre-cut and molded in black, all you have to do is apply the included high-quality stickers and install the stock Traxxas parts for the body latching system.
Pro-Line 1/5 Ultra Reservoir Shock Caps look like a cool accessory to dress up the appearance of the X-Maxx, however they are fully functional and designed for performance. These units increase the overall volume of the shocks thus allowing cooler shock temps and improved consistency. When you purchase the Ultra Reservoir Shock Caps they are built to be a direct fit on the stock X-Maxx shock bodies thus turning them into true reservoir shocks.
When you have a monster truck as immense as the X-Maxx, it will experience some hardcore forces when it is out ripping across harsh off-road terrain. You can trust in Pro-Line that they took this into account and made sure they carefully designed the Ultra Reservoir Shock Caps to withstand the demands the X-Maxx faces. The included shock cap, reservoir, piston and bottom cap have all been expertly CNC machined out of high-grade aluminum to exacting specifications. Pro-Line includes the hardware needed for the install along with the proper O-rings to keep the system sealed and quality Delrin upper pivot balls where the shocks attach to the shock towers.
One of the challenges that Traxxas X-Maxx owners face is the limited selection of tire and wheel options compared to 1/10-scale vehicles. Leave it to Pro-Line to come up with a great solution to help remedy this issue…here is the Performance HD 1/5 Axle Conversion. Installing these parts onto your X-Maxx will transform you r truck into a full 1/5 standard thus give you the access to any 1/5-scale 24mmm wheels and tires including the Pro-Line Masher X HP Tires (PRO1017610) which are highlighted below.
Pro-Line manufactured this axle conversion by utilizing heavy-duty blue anodized machined aluminum and created them only for the X-Maxx. They offer a massive durability upgrade over the stock setup since it replaces the plastic hexes with machined aluminum versions and has a much bigger axle diameter. Each axle conversion comes already assembled for you and matches perfectly with the stock X-Maxx driveshafts and ball bearings. Install them on your rig, add your favorite 24mm 1/5-scale tire/wheel combo and get thrashing.
Tires are a crucial part of any vehicle and having a high-quality set, especially for a vehicle like the Traxxas X-Maxx that has gobs of power and a suspension setup to tackle serious off-road terrain, can make all the difference in the world. With that being said, we selected these Pro-Line Masher X HP mounted belted tires which is their highest performance tire and wheel combo they have ever conceived.
The Masher tire name is not new to Pro-Line and they have become known as the standard when it comes to chevron monster truck style tread. The “X” designation it the name lets you know that they are not ordinary Masher tires. Pro-Line tweaked the design by adding futuristic tread and sidewall detail while making the tire low profile. This will make your truck look even tougher than before and more capable on many surfaces. They have unmatched grip on dirt, grass, gravel and even on the street. That is not all. Considering that these tires were purpose-built for massive, high-power monster trucks, Pro-Line made them belted to handle extreme power and high speeds with ease. The belts inside of the tire keep the tire from ballooning to retain full control when at high speeds.
Pro-Line mounted the Masher X tires on their Raid 5.7” multi-spoke wheels. This combination has been developed from the ground up to be lightweight and durable enough to handle the extreme capabilities of the X-Maxx. The wheels features a 24mm hex with the standard 1/5-scale through-hole which will fit most 1/5-scale vehicles. If you do not add the Pro-Line Performance HD 1/5 Axle Conversion mentioned above, you are still in luck. The Masher X HP mounted tires includes machined aluminum wheel washers so that they can fit on the X-Maxx.
Rounding out our favorite Pro-Line parts for the Traxxas X-Maxx is something that adds some scale detail along with obvious utility and it definitely ups the cool-factor on this monster truck. The Pro-Armor Front Bumper with 4” LED Light Bar is a direct replacement for the stock X-Maxx bumper. It is made out of Pro-Line’s Pro-Armor plastics to absorb impacts and features a molded P-L logo on its face to give it a nice finished quality and adds to its realistic appearance.
Additionally, Pro-Line pre-installed one of its 4” Super-Bright LED light bar kits into the bumper. It is nicely integrated into the face of the bumper which gives it a factory-finished quality. Swapping out the stock X-Maxx bumper for this one is a cinch and includes everything you need to get it completed. Pro-Line also gives you a scale light bar hole cover along with hardware in case you ever choose to not run the LED lights.
